IOP Publishing re-launch their products and services site, designed by Abacus

IOP Publishing commissioned Abacus to redevelop their new service, Physics Connect.

Physics Connect provides the global physics community with an enhanced directory that will allow users to easily access and source suppliers, products and services – whether they are provided by commercial organizations or research institutions. As well as product, company and service information, it provides white papers and news content from the Physics World website.

The new website launched using an innovative online directory solution (Source) powered by a combination of Abacus’ Webvision CMS and Marketplace Directories products and Autonomy’s IDOL enterprise search technology.  These technologies work together to create a fully integrated experience for both the advertiser and the user.  Suppliers can pay for enhanced listings which allow them to publish informative material on the website to accompany their company listing, such as press releases, white papers and product marketing. The directory workflow and value-added supplier content is all handled via a web-based self-service module which provides suppliers with lead generation information and usage metrics.  IOP Publishing has the ability to review/moderate supplier content before they are published live onto the site.

IOP Publishing provides a range of journals, magazines, websites and services that enable researchers and research organisations to reach the widest possible audience for their research.  They combine the culture of a learned society with global reach and highly efficient and effective publishing systems and processes.

The Source directory solution has now been adopted by a number of publishers looking to offer their users a more compelling and engaging experience based on a mix of timely editorial content and rich supplier information and gives their suppliers a reason to spend more money advertising online.
